Develop a practical understanding of the circular lifecycle of electric vehicle (EV) batteries and the key technical, regulatory, sustainability, and ethical considerations that shape second-life applications.
This 2-hour, free live online course introduces the concepts, processes, and innovations that underpin the circular management of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. Participants will explore how batteries are assessed at the end of first life, the factors that influence second-life readiness, and the ethical, sustainability and regulatory considerations that shape circular decision-making. The course also examines how diagnostics, data analytics, and emerging digital technologies support safe and effective battery life extension, helping to maximise resource efficiency and value throughout the battery lifecycle.
Delivered by experts from AVL, a global leader in mobility technology and electrification engineering, and Deep Blue, a leading consultancy specialising in ethics, AI governance, and responsible innovation, the course combines technical, regulatory, and sustainability perspectives. Interactive learning activities and discussion opportunities will help learners connect concepts to real-world industrial applications.
Part of the learning path “The EV Battery Value Chain: From Fundamentals to Second-Life Applications”, this course is designed for professionals across battery development, manufacturing, mobility, energy storage, testing, recycling, research, consulting, and policy.
This course builds on concepts introduced in Course 1: Electric Vehicle Battery Fundamentals, Safety & Diagnostics, which covers battery operation, performance, ageing, safety, and diagnostics. Participants may attend Course 1 for additional background, although it is not a prerequisite.
Participants receive a certificate of completion if they meet the course requirements, including attendance and successful completion of the final assessment.
