Electric Vehicle Battery Fundamentals, Safety & Diagnostics

Develop a practical understanding of electric vehicle (EV) battery technology and the key factors that influence battery performance, lifetime, safety and condition assessment. This 2-hour live online course explores the technical foundations of batteries, lifecycle considerations, ageing processes, safety aspects, and diagnostic approaches used throughout the battery value chain.

Delivered by experts from AVL, a global leader in mobility technology and electrification engineering, the course includes interactive learning moments and opportunities for discussion. Part of the learning path “The EV Battery Value Chain: From Fundamentals to Second-Life Applications”, it is designed for professionals across battery development, manufacturing, mobility, testing, recycling, research, consulting, and policy.

A certificate of completion is awarded to participants who meet the course requirements, including attendance and successful completion of the final assessment.

This course is organised within the R3-MYDAS project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme. The project develops innovative digital and mechatronic solutions to enable more sustainable, circular value chains for energy goods, including electric vehicle batteries.

Bernhard Poellabauer

Technical Expert Battery
AVL List GmbH


Bernhard Pöllabauer is a Technical Expert Battery at AVL List GmbH, leading the cell development team and focusing on lithium‑ion cell testing, ageing analysis, and data‑driven battery modelling. His expertise combines experimental cell characterisation with developing analytical and predictive methods for battery degradation and state estimation. 

Since 2025, he has coordinated cell development activities, defined test methodologies, and guided technical decision‑making within the battery cell domain. From 2023 to 2025, Mr Pöllabauer worked as a Development Engineer Battery, advancing cell testing procedures and developing models and algorithms for Battery Management Systems. 

Earlier positions include Scientific Researcher at TU Graz (2022) and Test Engineer Battery at AVL (2015–2023), where he gained extensive experience in cell testing, test bench operation, and method development.
